Hyderabad: Taking the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign a step ahead regionally, Telangana government took up a campaign Wellbeing out of Waste (WOW) in Hyderabad.
Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu on Friday 24th Dec 2016 launched this programme under the Swachh Hyderabad initiative promoting segregation of dry and wet waste at households.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is stressing on three issues to bring about a change- reform, perform and transform and Swachh Bharat initiative is part of that process,” said the Union Minister.
Mr. Naidu said that the clean drive initiative has now transformed into a people’s movement and lauded the state government’s efforts to promote the same. He urged the people to be part of the clean drive and said each person is a ‘Swaccha Grahi’, a volunteer of cleanliness.
Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, KT Rama Rao said that the Wellbeing out of Waste (WOW) Hyderabad initiative was to promote segregation of dry and wet waste at households.
WOW Hyderabad was launched in association with the corporate organization ITC, which would establish 1000 dry resource collection centers in the city and create additional income to the waste collectors.
Likewise, Godrej Consumers Services concluded an agreement in the presence of KT Rama Rao for establishing about 25 dry resource centers under its CSR Initiative.
In addition, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has provided for 450 public toilets to make the city Open Defecation Free’.
Further, the civic body called upon the oil companies to establish about 300 public toilets in the vicinity of their petrol bunks.
These initiatives will encourage maximum number of NGOs and social organization to join hand for the maximum participation.
